FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

How do I enroll my child in St. Marys?

For admissions information, contact both the Grade School at (620)231-6941 and the Pastor at (620)231-2135. For some general information, see the "admissions" section of the Grade School Handbook here (opens in new browser window).

What do I do if my child is sick?

Please do not send your student to school if they have been ill (vomiting, diarrhea, etc.) or has had a fever within the last 24 hours. Parents must notify the school between 7:30 and 8:30 a.m. giving the reason for the absence or, if no phone is available, a note signed by the parent will be accepted. When recovered, the student must report to the secretary's office upon arriving at school.

How can I help my child do better?

Among the many important things parents can do, probably the most important are to encourage reading and the development of a positive attitude about the values of education. Read to your child and as they grow, let them read to you. This can be an important "sharing" time. Minimizing distractions like television and video games is a good idea, as well.

You can also help your children with homework. Checking answers or proofreading papers are all ways parents can help their students, but don't make the actual corrections or do homework for them. Learning to correct one's own mistakes is a valuable part of the learning process. Let your child know that making mistakes is something everyone does, but successful people learn from them, fix them, and carry on.

Who do I contact if I have a problem with (fill in the blank)?

Is it true, I heard a rumor that (fill in the blank)?

With so many students and families, rumors are a persistent issue. At times, rumors have a habit of growing into "fact" at a rapid pace - these are most often wrong. It is always best to check with the Office or the Rectory to see what is really going on. If they don't know, they'll find out and get back to you.
